Designed by Ragnar Grimsrud Scandinavian Design Norway Mid Century

Ragnar Grimsrud (1902-1988) designed the Sissel tableware in 1954 for Figgjo AS (Norway). In addition to Sissel, he designed form and pattern for at least two other Figgjo dinner services: Grete and Benta (both 1951). The story goes that these were named after his three daughters, Sissel being the oldest. The service was produced in 8 coulours. These pieces are in a kind of mint green (grønn). Other popular coulours were blue (blå) and yellow (gul).

Condition: Very good vintage condition, no chips or cracks, just some glaze crazing and scratches as show in pictures and almost not noticeable in use. Please look at traces inside sugar bowl.

Ragnar Grimsrud: a short biography:
"Ragnar Grimsrud (12 September 1902 – 11 December 1988) is considered one of the most gifted Norwegian ceramists. His artistic education consisted of a period of drawing and painting with painter Torleif Rud in Minnesund (1920-1924) and graphic lessons in Oslo at the Statens håndverks- og kunstindustriskole (1924-1925). As a ceramist, Grimsrud was self-educated.

In 1925 he started his own ceramics workshop in Minnesund and worked there until it was destroyed by fire in 1928. Subsequently he started working at A/S Graverens Teglverk as artistic director. Apart from a short break around 1933-34 when he worked at the Egersund Fayancefabrik, Grimsrud was leading the ceramics department at Graverens until 1946.

At this time he started at A/S Figgjo Kraftselskap in Sandnes, later Figgjo Fajanse (1949), where he designed most of the products from the ’50s and ’60s Figgjo became known for. Including the popular Grete (1951), Sissel (1954) and Figgjo 35 (1961) tableware. When Figgjo Fajanse merged with Stavangerflintin in 1968, and from then on went by the name of Figgjo A/S, Grimsrud became artistic director and product development manager for both factories.
He remained active at Figgjo until his retirement in 1973."

Shipping Delays

Our shop is not responsable for any delay on arrival dates from your parcel, from the post office or another carrier.
Please inspect and report any damages within 3 days of receipt. Please keep all packaging should there be an issue.

Returns and exchange details

I do not accept returns based on size issues. Contact me within 2 days of delivery if there is some other issue with your order.

If we agree that there is a reason for a return, we require that it be posted promptly following our convo. If the item is returned beyond one week following our convo, a re-stocking fee of 20% will be deducted. This amount will increase by 10% for each successive week.

The item must be returned by Post with tracking number with all of its ORIGINAL PACKAGING including any bubble wrap, gift bag or box, insured for its purchased price, and must be received in the SAME CONDITION as when it was shipped to you and not altered in any way. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible

Gift wrapping and packaging

I try to use recycled and eco-friendly packaging as much as possible, while still keeping your product safe and intact during shipping. In the case that your fragile item needs more protection, I make sure to use 100% biodegradable packing peanuts.
